Perhaps you will recall these verses from the Nalandabodhi Losar Chant Liturgy (page 59):
Lord Gampopa's Song of Response to the Three Men of Kham "Shomo, Come Back Up!"
A good place, spiritual friend, good companions,
And dharma that hastens you along the path,
Other than these four, you could find nothing nobler
No matter where you searched.
Sons, don't go any further down, come back up!
If you forsake these four paths, where will you go?
Now that we have met through such good and auspicious coincidence,
Don't think too much about hope and fear.
It would be good for you to practice longer in this place.
Sons, don't go any further down, come back up!
From the dharma palace of Akanishtha,
This is the command of the dharmakaya, great Vajradhara: come back up!
Thus Gampopa sang.
Losar was February 21st- six months (and ages) ago. What wondrous events the Wood Monkey Year has brought us thus far!
The next few months hold great promise for our sangha, which is the inspiration for this selection of verses. We hope you are planning on attending the Inauguration of Nalanda West in November. This is an event that will mark history for our sangha and for dharma in the west. In addition, Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche will teach that following week at Nalanda West. Khenpo's annual Nalandabodhi teaching programs are extremely important for our sangha; consider attending this program if you can!
Next month The Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche will teach a series of Friday evening talks at Nalanda West. You are invited to join these teachings by teleconference for $20US ($25CA) per telephone dialup. Some European and other international cities may be able to connect for this cost, too- please inquire if you are interested.
Nalandabodhi would like to hear from you- please let us know if you are planning on attending the Inauguration (the RSVP deadline is August 30th) and if you wish to participate in the concalls in September by emailing NalandabodhiNews@buddhamail.net.
