Email Newsletter & Fire Dog Poem

Year of the Fire Dog

If we should leave our crowded woods
for a high lonesome outcrop
burning with so basic a feeling
our pure response is simply
to howl at this bright new moon

What sense of duty
chains us to this spot
once the world keeps turning
beyond our urgent efforts?

Still,
we’ll keep on barking
until the sun arises on its own
